Military/Special Mission Focus – field-tested LCD monitors

We build high-tech special ops video equipment for aircraft, such as: LCD monitors, aircraft computers, and high-definition video splitters and amplifiers. When you think of HD video and special mission and special ops, think Flight Display Systems. Each of our products is designed, engineered and built by a small, but growing, team of enthusiasts. Our employees are unwavering in their quest for quality and results.

Flight Display Systems creates the finest aircraft cabin electronics in the world. We grow by providing the best customer experience and dealer support anywhere.

Rugged, field-tested LCD monitors
Space is at a premium in most aircraft cockpits. Flight Display Systems has developed an entire line of rugged, field-tested LCD monitors that can be easily retrofitted into small areas. Using precision engineered flip brackets (flippers) or arm mounts, the displays can easily be installed alongside existing instrumentation. Custom configurations are also possible through our knowledgeable in-house engineering team.

Night vision enabled screens
Toggling a switch on the monitor faceplate changes the display back-lighting to a night vision-compatible mode. Otherwise, bright colors such as red, white and yellow can cause the auto-gain feature of night vision equipment to protect the system by reducing the level of light intensification. This reduction in gain leads to diminished visual acuity for the user. Colors used in display modes not optimized for night vision goggles can also create increased glare and reflection.

High-bright compatible displays
Because most ‘off-the-shelf’ LCDs don’t operate efficiently in direct sunlight, Flight Display Systems’ high-bright displays are engineered to operate in extreme ambient light conditions. These are especially good for helicopter operators.

High-definition widescreen monitors
High-definition widescreen monitors allow for more content to be displayed in a smaller space. Replacing outdated CRT displays and tiny LCD monitors offers a tactical advantage when making life and death decisions. To simplify planning and installation, Flight Display Systems has created Fly HD, an end-to-end system comprised of source equipment, backbone architecture and displays optimized for high-definition.

Bezel keys for added functionality
Bezel keys are typically used to send one or more characters to a military aircraft computer running advanced software applications. Users can assign up to 20 characters to each bezel key and decide where on the LCD monitor they would like the bezel keys installed. Customers can also request that a USB port be included on the monitor faceplate.

Avionics support and service
Our focus is on customer service. It isn’t something we do. It’s part of who we are. After all, customers are the most important part of our business. They aren’t dependent on us, but we are dependent on them. We are consistently rated #1 for avionics support and service by leading industry journals.

Our Dual Aircraft USB Charger Wins STC Approval

ALPHARETTA, Georgia  — Flight Display Systems is pleased to announce a new Dual Aircraft USB Charger (FDPWRU28-2), which has received FAA Parts Manufacturer Approval. The Dual USB Charger provides 5.2V DC for full power and fast charging capability to carry-on devices such as media players, smart phones, tablets, and other personal electronics. What makes this USB Charger unique is that it features an internal fan for cool operation. Keeping the component cool means that it will provide a consistent power supply to the charging device(s). This new model also has a 2-pin Molex connector, which is easier to install.

Dual USB Charger - FDPWRU28-2

This is such a simple item, but very important. It offers convenience to passengers by letting them arrive with their devices fully charged.

Personal electronic devices can be used in flight, while they charge. The Dual USB Charger is compatible with the latest Apple, Android, and Windows personal electronic devices. It converts standard aircraft 28V to 5.2V. It works well in the cockpit or the cabin. The Dual USB adapter does not provide data communication or syncing, only power.

Mission-ready Displays

You’ve heard all the advertising buzzwords/cliches before.  Fast—Reliable—Rugged—Easy-to-use

Now, if you’re in the military or law enforcement, here’s what you know about those words: Actions speak louder than cliches. The systems and displays in your aircraft have to work. They have to work exceptionally well. And they have to work NOW. There’s no time for “Now which button do you push?” or “I’ll need to adjust this a couple of times to get it in the right spot” when lives are on the line.

And the journey to this day began over a decade ago. It began with one small step for the traveler, but one giant leap for the aviation industry. David saw a need and created the Flight Display Moving Map to fill that need. The Moving Map provided passengers with a live map of their flight, plus pertinent flight data such as altitude, speed, and distance to destination. Compared to previous products, the Flight Display Moving Map was less expensive, faster, and easier to install. The device proved to be so popular, it propelled (yes, pun intended) the production of products that would set the standard in cabin management systems.

For the Flight Display Systems crew, there was a logical next step for the company: displays. The customers were begging for it. The main beneficiaries of these new rugged aviation displays were military and law enforcement.

They were trying to use civilian vehicles for specific missions. The civilian vehicle was not set up for an infrared or haler or microwave antennae or all the different things they’ve added to those aircraft. So we’ve been able to make modifications to make them usable in those vehicles. Today, everything needs to be faster, smaller, lighter, High-Definition.

And that, in a nutshell, is what Flight Display Systems does for the military and law enforcement. Over the years they have developed a full line of rugged mission-ready displays that are lab and field tested.

The Flipper is a 5, 7 or 10 inch monitor designed and configured to display in the most open of spaces or in the tightest of quarters. The thin LCDs flip into position when needed and stowed when not in use. The 7 and 10 inch flippers are widescreen format for more viewing area. Flippers are available with NVG and High-Bright capabilities.

In addition to the smaller Flippers, Flight Display Systems has developed a full line of High-Definition displays from 7 to 21.5 inches. These widescreen monitors allow for more content to be displayed in a smaller space. Replacing outdated CRT displays and tiny LCD monitors offers a tactical advantage when making critical decisions.

To simplify planning and installation, Flight Display Systems has created Fly HD, an end-to-end system comprised of source equipment, backbone architecture, and displays optimized for High-Definition. With minimal lead time, the engineers at Flight Display Systems can design and manufacture custom hardware to perform in extreme conditions. Products have environmental, EFI, EMI, RFT, shock, vibration, and magnetic anomaly testing performed to meet DO-160 standards.

Mission-ready features include Night Vision Compliance with front-mounted switches that toggle to display low intensity mode for compatibility with night vision equipment. High-Bright mode allows operation in ambient light conditions. Larger displays offer Quad Split Screen which can display four video inputs simultaneously. Certain displays can be equipped with Resistive or Capacitive Touchscreen.

Video input options include HD-SDI, DVI, HDMI, Component, VGA, S-Video, and Composite. The most exciting is HD-SDI or High Definition Serial Digital Interface. This standard, used in broadcast television, delivers 1.5 Gbps of uncompressed video through RG-179 coax cable. Using this standard eliminates many of the converters required to connect switches to monitors. Fewer converters means lighter weight and lower project cost.

Many of the display solutions offer USB ports that allow access to system computers. Mounting solutions include extremely rugged articulating arms, rack mounts, hinge mounts, and slide mounts. In response to low temperature situations, heated glass can be added. Flight Display Systems products are indeed, mission-ready.

Also at the ready: the FDS representatives that are your connection to performance excellence. That’s why when you call Flight Display Systems, you won’t get voicemail. You get people. Real people. With real answers to your challenges. In real time.

What we do is accessories, so as an airplane is introduced, there is always some functionality that wasn’t thought of at the inception of the airplane, the cockpit or the certification of the airplane. We provide a window that introduces those devices into the airplane and make it user-friendly for the crew and passengers. We enjoy the challenges of making custom applications for people so that they get the most out of what they want.
